Emma Jane is a local actress, singer and director who attended King Alfred’s University and received a BA (Hons) in Dance and Drama and she has since continued her studies at the Central School of Speech and Drama in 2005 with an MA in Acting Musical Theatre.
Her Theatre credits include; Sarah, The Great Sleigh Robbery (Christmas Musical, Brentwood Theatre), Elouise in Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens (Musical, Brentwood Theatre and The Fortune Theatre London) Green Monkey, The Nut Cracker Sweet (Children’s Christmas Show, Brentwood Theatre). For the last two Christmas’ Emma Jane has been working with Hens Theatre Company as a performer in their touring productions of Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and The Beanstalk. She has also performed in a series of concerts to raise money for the Brentwood Theatre Building Fund. Alongside her performing Emma Jane is a writer and has produced three shows with Roslyn Ure under the name of Girl Friday Productions; Sex Lies and Hazard Tape, On Air and most recently Moonlighting.
As well as performing, in 2011 Emma Jane embarked on her directorial debut with Ian Southgate as MD; Brentwood Operatic Society’s Company was critically acclaimed and it was nominated for a NODA Best Musical Award. In 2013 Emma Jane and Ian continued their collaboration directing Joseph and his Amazing Coloured Dreamcoat for Young Expressions in Ingatestone and RENT at Brentwood Theatre
In 2012, Emma and Ian set up Vivid Theatre Productions with the aim of creating exciting and imaginative productions, making Musical Theatre accessible to provincial and small scale venues. In their first year they devised and produced a trilogy of concerts entitled Him & Her, and this year they created a new musical review NEXT!
This summer Emma had the privilege of working with Joe Harmston on his latest project The Prodigals Musical a fast moving, highly energised new musical which began its life at The Edinburgh Festival and opened at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry September with celebrated West End Actor Simon Bowman leading the cast, as Colonel Luke Gibson of the Scottish Regiment.
Vivid Theatre Productions also played a part in co-producing the 2012 Brentwood Theatre Christmas Show Peter Rabbit and His Friends and they are currently working on this years production Hansel & Gretel by Mike Kenny.
As well as performing, writing and directing Emma has established herself as a vocal coach, working in local Secondary Schools, Theatre Schools and her own studio. Emma specialises in Musical Theatre; however, teaches techniques for maintaining a healthy singing voice which are applicable to Traditional, Classical, Folk, Pop & Rock, Jazz and Musical Theatre.
